Science Wins Again - Predictions of Another Major Earthquake in Indonesia Right on Target

Scientists fear another major quake may strike Indonesia

Seismologists say there is a heightened risk that a major earthquake may soon strike the western coast of Sumatra as a result of the monster quake that generated the December 26 tsunami.

They warn that the Indonesian city of Banda Aceh, which was already badly hit by the killer wave, could be at risk from a quake measuring up to 7.5 on the Richter scale and there is a potential for a tsunami-making 8.5 quake offshore.

"There is no doubt, our calculations show a very significant increase on stress on two major active faults in the Sumatra region," seismologist John McCloskey at Britain's University of Ulster told AFP.

Hard Comment: As Science is Under Attack From Religious Groups in America and major News Networks have 'Men of God' on their news shows on a daily basis, It will be interesting to see them react to this story if they were asked to explain why this has happened, again, or if something awful did follow this, would they be asked if they have 'Lost any Faith in God' and maybe some more respect in Science . But something tells me they will not be asked, because it would infuriate the base audience that is left watching these manipulating broadcasts on a daily basis called news.

A Scientist was also in the Indonesian Area last summer saying that a Massive Earthquake and Tsuanmi's were imminent in the near future. I wonder if he was posing as a 'Man of God' would he have been taken more seriously?

Its a shame that it took an event like this to take the spotlight off of Terry Shiavo, now Terri Shiavo's plight is only 80% of news coverage, and may go down even more if this earthquake creates a Tsuanami.

HARD TO BELIEVE BUT TRUE: A participant on a blog site I was just reading pointed out that the first major earthquake / Tsunami hit a day after Christmas, now, a Major Earthquake hit the region the day after Easter.

A Hard Look at this 'Hard Week of Headlines'

Well, first let me pass along a 'Happy Easter' to all of the readers who recognize this holiday weekend, and not just those who like to color easter eggs and hide them around the house, but to those who actually recognize Easter as a Religious Holiday.

This past week has surely been filled with 'High Octane Fuel' to 'Feed Hypocrisy'. The Terri Shiavo Story has dominated every top of the hour news headline update. Last week it was the tragedy of the Kidnapped and Murdered 9 yr old girl in Florida.

That is 2 weeks of Domestic Stories Dominating So Called 'National and World Headline' news shows on the Cable and TV Networks.

What has the public missed? Well, Media Matters stepped up to the plate to expose the blatant lies that were portrayed as fact regarding a wide variety of issues, especially the Terri Shiavo Case, but, bless them for yesterday.

Yes, Yesterday Media Matters pointed out how MainStream Media Outlets all ignored, IGNORED a story by the Washington Post that, in my opinion should have been a Top Story.

The Bush Administration LIED AGAIN TO THE WORLD regarding the North Korea Nuclear Exporting Business.

Now, I don't know about you, but personally, I am not surprised. Nor am I surprised that the High School Shooter was on Prozac . Is this a major story?, well to some but the real story has yet to be covered, how did this kid get the guns? I am sure the answers are out there, but have they been reported by these Manikins on Network News reading the words put forth to them by their producers and editors? - Not as far as I was able to see this week.

Terri Shiavo, Terri Shiavo, Terri Shiavo, well turns out that this movement has backfired on the President and most of the Lawmakers out there in Congress who took up this crusade to deny Terri Shiavo the right to die. May they all be voted out of office when their re elections are due.

Did the Media set these guys up?, has the Media had Enough of these Cornballs running around with that sick twisted look that most of them have, I mean come on, they all have that demented look, as if they are holding back an itch between their cheeks if you know what I mean. Take a look at the photo of Roy Moore that is on the Hard Attack News Front Page. Forget about his ridiculous statement dismissing Science, but just look at him, he looks like a nut! Is that the look of a man who only believes Intercourse is for Reproducing purposes only?

What Else happened this week, Well US Officials will not let Italian Examiners look at the automobile that the freed Italian Reporter who was held hostage in Iraq and wound up being shot in the shoulder, and the man who helped free her was shot dead. That is an AP Story, did any of the networks report that one, how about a local news outlet, did any of you out there see that story reported on the Boob Tube this week? - If so, let me know, I'm curious.

Also this week it was revealed that Osama Bin Ladin was in Tora Bora during 'Operation Go Kill Those Bastards'. But he got away, but I guess we won't hear about that on the Cable News Shows, nor the fact that Tommy Franks blew it on that one too. Didn't John Kerry say that We Blew it by using Warlords to be the front into the Tora Bora Region to go get Osama rather than using our own troops? Bush Outsourced a F*cking Military Operation to go get the Bastard that allegedly masterminded this whole 911 attack, are we going to hear 'Cry Baby Sean Hannity' scream about that? - Not a Chance. Oh, and it turns out that President Bush can be labled a LIAR regarding this incident also, because Bush made official statements that now, seem to contradict the TRUTH. It amazes me that so many people in America CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH.

What else, oh, let us not forget this little tid bit... Bush is calling a bunch of Volunteers who are patrolling the Mexican American Border to Stop Illegal Aliens from coming into this country 'Vigilantes'. So let us get this right, these VOLUNTEERS are helping out by putting up a resistance front, preventing people from crossing the border in the middle of the night, and they are vigilantes. So let me ask, if these Volunteers came across and helped prevent an ARMED MILITANT GROUP OF AL QAEDA WITH A 4X4 PACKED WITH RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL crossing into the United States in the middle of the night, would they still be labeled Vigilantes or would they be Hero's? Way to Go Bush, you have a good knack at DOUBLE CROSSING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Ok, enough of that, let's roll right into a 'Californian Republican Congressmen Calling for Re Opening the Oklahoma City Bombing Investigation' . Yep, turns out someone believes the conclusion of that report is incomplete, well good for him, and good luck on getting this investigation reopened. I want it reopened, because it would set a precedent into reopening the flawed 911 investigations that were conducted recently that many have been able to not just poke holes through, but drive a truck through. I personally am curious to know what the hell is that thing that appears to look like a 'pod' under one of the planes that rammed the World Trade Center.

And speaking of 911, a NY Times request, only by filing a 'Freedom of Information Act' has now been granted access to the New York Fire Department's tapes involving the response to 911. These tapes are going to expose the fact that the radio system that the fire department was forced to use SUCKED, and it is all because of Rudy Guiliani, 'America's Mayor', the guy who rammed down that latest Radio System into the NYFD even though top brass as the Fire Department said all along it was a flawed system.

And speaking Rudy, what Criminals wearing fancy suits and 200 dollar shirts is he getting off of the hook now? His firm got I believe Merryl Lynch off the hook for pumping dumping crappy stocks to suckers like you and me with just paying a fine, but where is the 'Untouchable'? Oh, he just hired some former Big Shot to be part of his Law Firm Empire, you know, those scumbag lawyers that leach off of the system, you know, that 'John Edwards Crowd'.

Ahh yes, but apparently 'America's Mayor', the guy who was out on the town, cheating on his wife, with his kids home crying 'Mommy, why doesn't Daddy Come Home Anymore', and 'Mommy, I'm Sorry I made Daddy Hate You', while Rudy was out with 'One of his Girlfriends' is now a cheerleader for a new Football Stadium to be built on the west side of Manhattan. Well, Cable Giant Cablevision is Refusing to Air a 'Message from Rudy', where Rudy is pumping the idea of this Football Stadium to be built in Manhattan.

What Else, Right Wing Publication NewsMax Edited a story they already posted after Rawstory and others exposed it as pretty much a LIE. I wonder if the Great Bob Grant, king of NY Talk Radio will talk about that, considering a couple of years ago he was so proud to tell the gang over at NewsMax that they have been doing a 'Fine Job'.

An Oil Spill hit a California Reservoir, but don't worry, workers are in a hurry trying to clean up the 126,000 gallons of crude that spilled into the communities drinking water.

Bad Guy 'Bobby Fisher', wanted man, is set to be accepted to live in the Iceland. Yes, this wanted man by US Officials has been on the run for years now, he broke the law, and engaged in activities with Yugoslavia, can you believe that this bastard had the balls to engage in a 'CHESS TOURNAMENT' all while there were US Sanctions in place to prevent things like this from happening? - Yep, No word yet if any sort of 'NAVY SEALS OPERATION' will be unleashed to get this bad guy in transit from Japan to Iceland.

Iraq is still a Mess, a Hard Attack Independent Report about 2 months ago is now confirmed, yes, Barbers have been targets of Hardliners in Baghdad, so far about 15 have been shot dead.
I know of 1 US Soldier Killed this week, several others injured in Iraq as operation make it up as you go along continues. Decapitated Bodies of Several Iraqi Soldiers were found on a main road outside of Baghdad, assassinations of suspected 'spies for America' continue, even cleaning ladies are being gunned down for working for US forces. Car bombs are making a come back, one just went off Friday killing 11 Iraqi Commando's, wounding 14 others including a couple of US Forces.

A BP Amoco oil refinery exploded in Texas, Again. They just had a major explosion about a year ago, and it turns out 600 people died there back in 1947 when yet another explosion occurred.

And last but not least, remember that ANTHRAX ATTACK ALERT late last week? Where 'Positive' results all of the sudden turned into 'Negative' Results, well it looks like they were Positive all along and an unknown source made a statement to the press saying it was Negative. But don't worry, only a few sites on the Internets are reporting this, so, there really isn't anything to worry about.

Well that is about it for this weeks wrap up, I am sure I am missing many stories, but so many news events, but only so much one can bare. It was a good week for bloggers though, the more the Media on the Boob Tube dwelled in Terri Shiavo, the more 'Truth Seekers' explored the Blogs, so, I guess it is good for those on the Internet that the Mainstream Media that control the TV News continues to talk about nothing, keep it up CNN, maybe you will attract the Brain Dead that watch Fox, and MSNBC, good job continuing to stay on the bottom, and cheers to CNBC for turning their Financial News Network into a daytime 'Name that Price' game show! - I like the 'Lightning Round', wow, did you guys hire someone new for that concept? Keep it up, it is so apparent you guys are desperate to attract a new audience, I guess your old audience is in the poor house as a result of all of those pumpers and dumpers you've had on your show over the course of the last 4 years. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten that 'PageNet' bit you guys did way back when during the Tom Costello Days.

Oh, one more thing, I know that this Blog Thing aggravated some of you out there, I understand your views, so now, Stories will not be directly blogged, but will go back to the old way. And this Hard Attack Blog will try to find its 'fit' in with its acceptable 'crowd' one way or another, so bare with it, and it will work out just fine.

Thanks to all of you, fans and foes, this Blog will become the place to come, to stay in the Know!

This Blog Service isn't Really Working Out...

Blogspot isn't working to well in my opinion. I have also been told by a few viewers that it is almost annoying at times, because there is a lag, a waiting period for the pages to open.

Many Hard Attack News Visitors do not have time, and I can't blame them for being annoyed. So I think I am going to halt the linking of stories to this service, and will be reconsidering the blogging strategy, or is it strategery?.

Believe it or not, a news publication contacted me also and actually wasn't too happy either, referring to Copyrights.... so for now, I am no longer going to be linking to this blog service from the Main Page of Hard Attack News.com & Hard News Now.com in the format I have been.

But I will be posting a daily rant, view, comment page on the days events, so those of you out there that enjoy my writings, perception of whats going on, views, or, just like to laugh at my attempt to communicate to everyone else, will be able to log onto this Hard Blogger for a fresh report on a daily basis.

U.S., Canada, Mexico to Sign Accord

Yahoo News-AP: U.S., Canada, Mexico to Sign Accord
*Note the Second Paragraph regarding Tax on Soft Drinks

Excerpt - WACO, Texas - Canada is irritated that the United States is keeping its border closed to Canadian beef and maintaining punitive tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber. Washington isn't pleased at the Ottawa government's snub of U.S. plans for a missile defense shield.

With Mexico, relations are strained by the Bush administration's anger over a high Mexican tax on soft drinks made with high fructose corn syrup, water owed to U.S. farmers and the suspicion Mexico could do more on drug trafficking and to address fears that al-Qaida agents are slipping into the United States from the south.

Mexican officials complain about vigilante groups hunting illegal immigrants in Arizona, new U.S. walls being built along the border and the still-stalled status of a guest worker immigration liberalization proposal.

However, none of these vexing issues was on the official agenda here Wednesday when President Bush met jointly with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.

"Certainly, I'm concerned. I can't imagine what's going to happen to 100,000 AK-47s. I can't imagine why Venezuela needs 100,000 AK-47s, and I just personally hope that it doesn't happen," he said after meeting with Brazil's vice president and minister of defense, Jose Alencar.

In Texas, Critics Question Bush's 'Life' Culture

Yahoo News - Reuters: In Texas, Critics Question Bush's 'Life' Culture

Excerpt - HOUSTON (Reuters) - President Bush's intervention for Terry Schiavo has opened old wounds in Texas where death penalty opponents say his words of support for a "culture of life" ring hollow after so many executions during his time as governor of the state.

Bush said he stepped into the Schiavo case because the United States should have "a presumption in favor of life," but there were 152 executions in Texas during his administration, including some in which the convict's guilt was in doubt, critics said.

"It's hypocrisy at a thousand levels," said University of Houston law professor and death penalty defense attorney David Dow.

"I saw many, many cases where there was substantial doubt about whether someone was guilty or whether the death penalty was the appropriate sentence, but he never said anything," said David Atwood, head of the Texas Coalition Against the Death Penalty. "I really can't say he cares about life."

Miami Herald: IRS probes politics at church
A Liberty City church's tax-exempt status is in jeopardy as the IRS has launched a probe into a visit by former candidate John Kerry last fall. Some wonder if the probe is politically motivated.

Excerpts - The IRS has notified a Liberty City church that it is under investigation for possibly engaging in political activity -- putting its tax-exempt status into question.

The probe is related to an appearance last October by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and several black leaders, including U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami, the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The reason for the investigation, an IRS official wrote in a 10-page letter obtained by The Herald, is that ``a reasonable belief exists that Friendship Missionary Baptist Church has engaged in political activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status as a church.''

Although both Smith and Lewis discounted that the letter was politically motivated, some in the audience did not. They wondered if similar letters were sent to any church that hosted President Bush.

Many Police Departments Dropping Out of Lawsuit So They Can Continue to Buy Crown Vics

Tampa Bay Online-AP: Many Police Departments Dropping Out of Lawsuit So They Can Continue to Buy Crown Vics

Excerpt - CHICAGO (AP) - Dozens of police departments in Illinois who joined a lawsuit alleging that a popular police cruiser is unsafe have dropped out because they said Ford Motor Co. threatened to stop selling them the cars.

Hard Comment: I am somewhat aware of the fire hazard that these Crown Victoria's have, from watching a report not to long ago on ABC 20/20 or something like that. But I do believe most of these hits from the rear that caused these fires were impacts of another vehicle driving at high speeds hitting these patrol cars parked on the side of the road.

The doors of these Crown Vic's got stuck from the impact of the hit, and with a fire breaking out with the ruptured gas tanks, some of these poor bastards burned alive in their cars because they couldn't get out.

I have the sister of the Crown Vic, a Grand Marquis, and last year I locked myself out with the keys inside. After failing to break in with the old methods of using the tools of the trade to break in with no luck, (later I found out that Ford had installed measures to prevent these old tools of the trade from working), it began to rain, so I was like the hell with this, grabbed a big old rock and threw it into the side window of the rear door. Wouldn't you know it, the Safety Glass wouldn't break.

I wound up then borrowing a Hammer, and had to hit the window oh, about 10 times, and finally I broke the damm thing.

That was another issue of one of the Police Officers who was eventually rescued from his burning vehicle, that the people trying to get him out couldn't break the glass or something.

These cars do need some sort of 'Emergency' release to be able to break the safety glass somehow. If you were in an accident, and say the battery of the car was smashed, and the doors become jammed from the accident, and a fire breaks out, the power windows are not going to work, and you are not going to be able to get out.

Maybe an window crank should be on the doors, as a back up to the power window option, in the event such a scenerio were to happen to a motorist, it is not impossible and really shouldn't cost much to add.

But all in all, the Crown Victoria / Mercury Marquis are the safest Cars on the Market.

There is no alternative, unless General Motors wakes up and reintroduces a rear wheel drive Impala or Caprice, with a Body on Frame assembly.

General motors Front Wheel Drive Cars do not cut it for Police Activity, if you jump a curb using the new Impala's, you are not going anywhere afterwards because you wind up ripping apart the front drive assembly.

Rear Wheel Drive Cars, with Body on Frame Assemblies have their advantages for many other purposes also.

For Ford to say 'Take it or Leave it' - might be a bit callous, but lets be real here, anyone expecting to be able to safely get out of a car that is standing still that was just rammed by another car donig 70 Miles an Hour, is Expecting a hell of a lot, Police Included.

So, that is my Hard Take on this story.

Global warming could trigger ant invasions

Global warming could trigger ant invasions - New Scientist

Excerpt - Global warming may lead to an unexpected threat from the insect world - swarming invasions of tiny ants - suggests new research.

The study of 665 ant colonies in environments ranging from tropical rainforests to frozen tundra suggests that in warmer environments the ants' body size shrinks, on average, while the number of individuals in the colony booms.

Global warming might shrink ant workers by as much as a third, says Michael Kaspari at the University of Oklahoma, US, and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama, who carried out the study: "And since ant species with small workers appear to be particularly successful at invading, ant invasions - already destructive - may become more common in a warming world."

Recruiter-turned-peacenik hits nerve in N.C. - USA Today Report

Excerpt - WAYNESVILLE, N.C. — If you were young and tough and wanted a challenge, Jimmy Massey was the man to see. He was gung ho. He was Semper Fi. He was the strutting, cussing, tobacco-chewing Marine recruiter.

The staff sergeant won scores of recruits in this and other patriotic mountain towns by talking courage, honor, commitment. Then, following his own adage — "you gotta walk the walk" — he went to Iraq.

That was two years ago, before Massey left the Marines, returned to Waynesville, and began saying things about the war that make people wonder whether they really knew him in the first place. These days Massey carries a sign around town that says he killed Iraqi civilians. He confesses to having enticed some recruits with false promises, and encouraged others to lie on applications. He has gone to Canada to testify for an Army deserter seeking asylum, and he has spoken at peace rallies.

He left a Marine recruiter and returned a peacenik.

These moves all emanate from top Park Service political appointees over the objections of park superintendents, agency lawyers and scientists. Two labs confirmed Pentagon anthrax

Two labs confirmed Pentagon anthrax - Update to last Week's Anthrax Alerts

World Peace Herald-UPI Report: WASHINGTON -- Anthrax was confirmed twice in samples collected from a Pentagon mail facility initially closed last week and then opened after being declared free of the pathogen, United Press International has learned.

The head of the company that was accused of contaminating the samples sent from that facility -- a detached building on the Pentagon grounds in Arlington, Va. - said his company had never had a false positive test before and the presence of anthrax was detected independently in the original samples by two government laboratories besides his own.

The Pentagon alarm is distinct from a second alert for anthrax that also occurred March 14 at a mail room in a Defense Department-leased building in Falls Church, Va. The entire three-building complex was closed for two days before being declared clean.

Robert B. Harris, president and chief executive officer of Commonwealth Biotechnologies Inc. in Richmond, Va., also said the anthrax found at the Pentagon was the same genetic strain used in the 2001 attacks.

The dispute over the possibility of contamination -- suggested to the media by an anonymous source -- became more heated as an automated alarm warned of anthrax at yet a third Washington-area mailroom Friday. That third alert, at Bolling Air Force Base, was triggered by automated sensors -- as was the alert at Falls Church.

The week of anthrax alarms began when the Pentagon mail facility was closed after tests on samples taken there the week before had been found positive for the presence of anthrax. The initial samples, consisting of swabs of surfaces from the facility, had been collected March 10, but the results were not received and the facility was not shut down until March 14.

Pakistan's Musharraf Vows To Strengthen Nuclear Program As Missile Tested

Space War-AFP: Pakistan's Musharraf Vows To Strengthen Nuclear Program As Missile Tested

Excerpt - President Pervez Musharraf vowed Saturday to further upgrade Pakistan's nuclear capability but with a "strict adherence" to non-proliferation as he watched the test-firing of a long-range missile which can carry a nuclear warhead.

"The nation's nuclear capability, which enjoyed the broadest national consensus, was developed for Pakistan's own security and will continue to receive the highest national priority," a military statement quoted Musharraf as saying.

The military ruler attempted to allay apprehensions about the future of the programme after fresh disclosures about the activities of disgraced nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan.

"The capability was here to stay, will continue to go from strength to strength and no harm will ever be allowed to come to it," he said.

Pakistan admitted last week that Khan had supplied Iran with centrifuges, used to enrich uranium for atomic warheads. It said the government was not involved but has refused to give him up for questioning by other countries.

"The United States put forward a very practical proposal at the last round of talks. We want to see results to moving forward on that proposal. We want to see North Korea come back to the talks," said spokesman Scott McClellan.

His comments came after US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned during a visit to China that North Korea faced "problems" if it failed to return to the talks and that Washington was looking at "other options."

Pupils make more progress in 3Rs 'without aid of computers'

Pupils make more progress in 3Rs 'without aid of computers' - Telegraph

Excerpt - The less pupils use computers at school and at home, the better they do in international tests of literacy and maths, the largest study of its kind says today.

The findings raise questions over the Government's decision, announced by Gordon Brown in the Budget last week, to spend another £1.5 billion on school computers, in addition to the £2.5 billion it has already spent.

Mr Brown said: "The teaching and educational revolution is no longer blackboards and chalk, it is computers and electronic whiteboards."

However, the study, published by the Royal Economic Society, said: "Despite numerous claims by politicians and software vendors to the contrary, the evidence so far suggests that computer use in schools does not seem to contribute substantially to students' learning of basic skills such as maths or reading."

Indeed, the more pupils used computers, the worse they performed, said Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Wossmann of Munich University.

Their report also noted that being able to use a computer at work - one of the justifications for devoting so much teaching time to ICT (information and communications technology) - had no greater impact on employability or wage levels than being able to use a telephone or a pencil.

There is no truth to the Taiwanese media reports that the (Singapore Armed Forces) is participating in a Taiwanese joint military exercise involving foreign military consultants,' the defense ministry said in a one-line statement.

Taiwan's Liberty Times newspaper reported yesterday that Singapore and Taiwan would hold exercises for the first time in three decades in the southern county of Hengchun from late March to early April.

The report also said the United States and Japan would send military advisers to the exercises, including a Taiwanese motorized infantry battalion and a Singapore brigade.Beijing on Monday demanded an explanation from Singapore while Taiwan's defense ministry declined to comment on the report.

'The Chinese side is firmly opposed to countries which have diplomatic relations with China carrying out any type of official or military contact with Taiwan,' the foreign ministry in Beijing said.It urged Singapore to 'clarify' the report.

China regards Taiwan as part of its territory waiting to be reunified, by force if necessary. The two sides split at the end of a civil war in 1949.Singapore and China have enjoyed strong bilateral relations but ties hit a rough patch last year after then deputy prime minister Lee Hsien Loong paid a visit to Taiwan shortly before being sworn in as Singapore's prime minister.

Ties have since improved after Lee reiterated his country's 'One China' policy and warned Taipei against provoking China by pushing for independence.

Chinese 'spy ship' spotted off Taiwan

Chinese 'spy ship' spotted off Taiwan - IMQ7.net - Phillipine News

Excerpt - TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's coastguard said Tuesday that a Chinese spy ship intruded into waters around the island before being shepherded away by Taiwanese navy vessels.

The incident came amid growing tensions between Taiwan and China after the Chinese parliament this month passed an anti-secession law aimed at the island off the southeastern Chinese coast.

"The ship sailed away after it was approached by naval and coastguard ships," a coastguard official told Agence France-Presse.

The United Daily News said the Chinese vessel, the Xue Long, was first spotted off the island on Sunday, prompting the navy to send frigates to follow it closely.

AGENCY ADMITS PANTHER WHISTLEBLOWER WAS RIGHT - Fish & Wildlife Service Persists in Trying to Fire Vindicated Scientist

Fish & Wildlife Service Persists in Trying to Fire Vindicated Scientist

Excerpt - Washington, DC — The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) today formally conceded that it has been using flawed science in assessing the habitat and population of the endangered Florida panther, according to a letter from outgoing Director Steve Williams. The agency announcement came in a decision to uphold a legal complaint filed jointly by one of the agency’s own biologists and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) that studies relied upon by FWS in approving proposed development in Southwest Florida inflate panther population and inaccurately minimize habitat needs.

Andrew Eller, Jr., an 18-year USFWS biologist, in the Florida panther recovery program who filed the complaint with PEER, was fired by FWS the week after the November election. PEER is contesting Eller’s termination; that case is slated for hearing in April.

The PEER/Eller complaint contends that FWS engaged in scientific fraud by —

*Equating daytime habitat use patterns (when the panther is at rest) with nighttime habitat use patterns (when the panther is most active);
*Assuming that all known panthers are breeding adults, discounting juvenile, aged and ill animals; and
*Using population estimates, reproductive rates, and kitten survival rates not supported by field data.

U.S. avoids role of mediator as Iraqis remain deadlocked - Kurdish Media - NY Times Report -

U.S. avoids role of mediator as Iraqis remain deadlocked

Excerpt - WASHINGTON, March 19 - Senior Bush administration officials said this week that the administration was avoiding direct intervention to break the deadlock among Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish factions, still trying to form a government in Iraq six weeks after national elections.

The officials said they had concluded that despite the bitter wrangling over how much power to distribute among the factions, particularly Shiites and Kurds, any attempt by the United States to mediate would be likely to backfire.

"So far, we’re letting it happen," a senior administration official said, referring to the Kurdish-Shiite dispute. "That’s really by design. If we try to impose a solution, then anyone who gets the short end of the stick will hold a grudge, not only against us, but against the deal that was reached.

Red Sox partner says CIA chartered his jet

Chicago Tribune: Red Sox partner says CIA chartered his jet

- BRADENTON, Fla. -- Phillip Morse, a minority partner of the Boston Red Sox, said Sunday that his private jet has been chartered to the CIA and confirmed that it had been flown to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where more than 500 terrorism suspects are held, as well as other overseas destinations.

"It's chartered a lot," Morse said by phone from his winter home in Jupiter, Fla. "It just so happens one of our customers is the CIA.

"I was glad to have the business, actually. I hope it was all for a real good purpose."

But Morse said he was "stunned" by a report in Sunday's Chicago Tribune suggesting that the plane might have been used for "renditions," the controversial practice in which terrorism suspects arrested abroad have been forcibly returned to their native countries for interrogation.

Between June 2002 and January of this year, the plane has flown to Afghanistan, Morocco, Dubai, Jordan, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, and it made 82 visits to Dulles International Airport outside Washington, according to the Tribune, which cited records from the Federal Aviation Administration.

"I don't know how you would confirm it," Morse said. "To me, it's stunning that they would link that stuff together. I called [Red Sox CEO] Larry [Lucchino] to let him know. I didn't want him to get broadsided. I'm a little bit embarrassed the Red Sox are linked to this, for no reason whatsoever."

Iraq's New Prime MInister: Jaafari aims at Sharia Rule

Kurdish Media: Jaafari aims at Sharia Rule

Excerpt - BERLIN, March 19 (AFP) - Iraq’s front running Shiite candidate for prime minister, Ibrahim Jaafari, said in an interview he aimed to introduce sharia Islamic law and federalism and confirmed Saddam Hussein would be judged by the end of 2005.

"It’s understandable in a country where the majority of people are Muslim," Jaafari said of the Sharia law, in an interview conducted in Baghdad due to appear in Monday’s edition of German magazine Der Spiegel. "Iraq should become a Muslim country but without falling under the influence of Iran or Saudi Arabia," he said. "Everyone will have the same rights, even members of the many minor religious communities," he added, explaining there would be multiple forms of jurisprudence. He also said women would be under no legal obligation to wear a veil. "They will make their own decisions," the Shiite candidate said.

According to results of a poll released on Thursday most Iraqis are deeply attached to their Islamic identity but do not want a strict application of sharia law, as in neighbouring Saudi Arabia or Iran. About 48 percent of those interviewed agreed that "religion has a special role to play in the government", while 46 percent supported a separation of state and mosque.

GOP Governors Cut State Workers' Rights

Yahoo News-AP: GOP Governors Cut State Workers' Rights

Excerpt - Republican governors in a few spots across the country are angering state employees by removing one of organized labor's strongest tools — the right to collective bargaining.

Governors in three states who've taken the step say it's about making government more efficient or being fair to non-union workers. Critics say it's political payback for labor's traditional support of Democrats and part of a wider shift to undermine workers in favor of big business.

Within hours or days of taking office this year, Mitch Daniels in Indiana and Matt Blunt in Missouri eliminated collective bargaining agreements for state employees, affecting about 50,000 workers. Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher did the same when he took office in 2003. In each case, the agreements had only been granted by executive order, not by law.

Excerpt - BEIJING, March 20 - The congregation at Gangwashi Protestant Church broke into applause for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Sunday evening as she rose to leave after the Palm Sunday service

Gangwashi is one of a handful of China's state-approved churches, allowed to operate in this officially atheistic country only if all elements - including hymns and Scripture - are cleared by the government.

Ms. Rice, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, said she did not want to miss Palm Sunday while traveling. Blair was told US fixed case for war: BBC

Blair was told US fixed case for war: BBC

Sydney Morning Herald: The head of Britain's foreign intelligence agency told the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, that the case for war in Iraq was being "fixed" by Washington to suit United States policy, according to a new BBC documentary.

Nine months before hostilities began in March 2003, Richard Dearlove, head of MI6, briefed Mr Blair and a group of ministers on the US's determination to begin the invasion, says the program, which was due to be aired last night.

After attending a briefing in Washington, Mr Dearlove told the meeting that "the facts and intelligence" were being "fixed round the policy" by the Bush Administration.

The allegations against Mr Blair just weeks before an expected general election are likely to reopen a feud between the Government and the BBC. The two fell out last year over allegations by a BBC reporter that Britain "sexed up" the case for war.

The documentary argues that Mr Blair had signed up to follow President George Bush's plans for "regime change" in Iraq as early as April 2002.

Robin Cook, the former foreign secretary who resigned as leader of the House of Commons over the war in Iraq, said that the threat of weapons of mass destruction was not Mr Blair's true reason for going to war.

"What was propelling the Prime Minister was a determination that he would be the closest ally to George Bush and they would prove to the United States Administration that Britain was their closest ally," Mr Cook tells the program.

"His problem is that George Bush's motivation was regime change. It was not disarmament. Tony Blair knew perfectly well what he was doing.

"His problem was that he could not be honest about that with either the British people or Labour MPs, hence the stress on disarmament."

In Iraq, the head of the police anti-corruption department in the northern city of Mosul was assassinated yesterday in the police building where he worked, government sources said. On Saturday insurgents killed a police officer in Kirkuk and later bombed his funeral, killing three other policemen.

One of those killed at the funeral was identified as a cousin of Jalal Talabani, a Kurdish leader who is expected to become Iraq's next president.

Outside Iraq, some of the millions of people who marched two years ago against the invasion returned to the streets at the weekend to protest against the continuing bloodshed.

News agencies said their numbers this time were significantly smaller - 45,000 in London, 15,000 in Istanbul, 4000 in Los Angeles and several thousand in New York - but their message was the same. Protesters left a cardboard coffin outside the US embassy in London, a black wreath in front of the consulate in Adana, Turkey, and outlines of bodies by the embassy in Athens.

Mr Bush used his weekly radio address to mark the second anniversary of the invasion. "We knew of Saddam Hussein's record of aggression and support for terror," he said. "We knew of his long history of pursuing, even using, weapons of mass destruction, and we know that September 11 requires our country to think differently.

"Now, because we acted, Iraq's government is no longer a threat to the world or its own people."

In Special Session, Senate Passes Schiavo Bill

UPDATE: Does the Media Know that Bush's Texas Law Is Allowing Deaths?
Excerpt -
By now most people who read liberal blogs are aware that George W. Bush signed a law in Texas that expressly gave hospitals the right to remove life support if the patient could not pay and there was no hope of revival, regardless of the patient's family's wishes. It is called the Texas Futile Care Law. Under this law, a baby was removed from life support against his mother's wishes in Texas just this week.

In Special Session, Senate Passes Schiavo Bill

Washington Post, Sunday, March 20, 2005; 7:50 PM : The Senate voted today to give federal courts jurisdiction over the case of a brain-damaged Florida woman, an extraordinary legislative move designed to permit a U.S. judge to order the reinsertion of a feeding tube that a state court allowed to be removed Friday.

House members planned to pass the measure a few minutes after midnight, and then rush it to President Bush for his signature, thus writing another chapter in an emotionally charged saga that has divided the patient's family and many Americans over right-to-die questions. House leaders were scrambling to summon 218 colleagues to the chamber -- the minimum for a quorum -- in order to pass the bill in the earliest moments of Monday. Congress had begun a long-planned two-week recess, and many lawmakers were traveling.

Armondo: Senator Reid, this bill is an outrage. I can understand your thinking on agreeing to let it come to a vote. I can even see why you would vote for it, sort of. But to praise it this way and then to talk about bearing responsibility for the consequences? That is just AWFUL! The case was fully heard by the Courts. They reached a final decision. It is over. This base political game from Republicans was, if something needed to be said, to be denounced, not to be praised. You, Sen. Reid, have just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, letting the GOP off the hook for this sheer abuse of power and lunacy. This is simply a terrible terrible decision, not because it will hurt Dems, but because it doesn't allow the American people to have a clear view of how extremist and out of the mainstream the GOP is. I deplore your statement and fear you have made a terrible terrible mistake.

Bush Again Misled the World - Covered Up Pakistans Nuke Exporting Dealings with Libya

Washington Post: U.S. Misled Allies About Nuclear Export

Excerpt - In an effort to increase pressure on North Korea, the Bush administration told its Asian allies in briefings earlier this year that Pyongyang had exported nuclear material to Libya. That was a significant new charge, the first allegation that North Korea was helping to create a new nuclear weapons state.

But that is not what U.S. intelligence reported, according to two officials with detailed knowledge of the transaction. North Korea, according to the intelligence, had supplied uranium hexafluoride -- which can be enriched to weapons-grade uranium -- to Pakistan. It was Pakistan, a key U.S. ally with its own nuclear arsenal, that sold the material to Libya. The U.S. government had no evidence, the officials said, that North Korea knew of the second transaction.

Pakistan's role as both the buyer and the seller was concealed to cover up the part played by Washington's partner in the hunt for al Qaeda leaders, according to the officials, who discussed the issue on the condition of anonymity. In addition, a North Korea-Pakistan transfer would not have been news to the U.S. allies, which have known of such transfers for years and viewed them as a business matter between sovereign states.

2 Years of War in Iraq Now Completed

Well today marks the end of 2 years of battle in Iraq. Shock and Awe started on March 20th 2003, and starting tomorrow we will be entering our 3rd year of War in Iraq.

Over the past 2 years, this nation has been through the tides and turmoil of war.

Those wanting to stay in the spotlight, or get into the spotlight are taking the position that even though this war was based on a lie, its ok because the ends justify the means.

Those who were opposed to the War from the Get Go for taking the position that Iraq was not a threat to the United States of America, were correct.

Those who still believe the war is ok because Saddam is now out of power will have to face the fact that the people who are now in charge are going to surpress Woman's rights and freedoms in Iraq.

And those people who fell for Bush's misleading campaign on reasons to go to war in Iraq and realized that they were conned (myself included in that catagory) , have to deal with the fact that their fellow countrymen are being subjected to have to go to war, or will be subjected to going to war not based on defending itself, but based Bush's idiology.

Tough on Terror? Give me a break, President Bush should have confronted Vladimir Putin and told him straight out 'NO" regarding Nuclear technology being sent to Iran from the Get Go.

JFK stood up to the Russians during the cuban missile crisis, he didn't punk out. This current President failed to stand up to those who 'are with the terrorists'.

That is how I feel this morning, how do you feel on this 2 year anniversery of this war known as 'Operation Make it Up as You Go Along'?.

I am now setting out for a weekend of fun, away from this computer and away from the news for the weekend, I'll be back Sunday Night for some updates, untl then, have a nice weekend.

Kerry criticized the Republican leadership's priorities in a budget that includes proposed cuts in health care and education and up to $106 billion in tax cuts over the next five years.

Senate Kills All Medicaid Cuts From Budget

Yahoo News - AP: Senate Kills All Medicaid Cuts From Budget

Excerpt - WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Thursday to strip all proposed Medicaid cuts from the $2.6 trillion budget for next year, killing the heart of the plan's deficit reduction and dealing an embarrassing setback to President Bush and Republican leaders.

The amendment, whose chief sponsor was moderate Sen. Gordon Smith , R-Ore., was approved 52-48 after days of heavy lobbying by both sides. It was widely seen as a test of the GOP-run Congress' taste for making even moderate reductions in popular benefit programs that consume two-thirds of the budget and are growing rapidly, even at a time of record federal deficits.

FBI Whistleblower Edmonds Files New Lawsuit

Anti War Report: FBI Whistleblower Edmonds Files New Lawsuit

Excerpt - WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI contract linguist who was terminated in 2002 after becoming a whistleblower regarding the 9/11 tragedy, today filed the most detailed lawsuit to date outlining her allegations. The complaint, filed under the Federal Torts Claims Act (FTCA), reveals for the first time details surrounding Ms. Edmonds' interactions with a former FBI colleague who raised suspicions by her perceived efforts to recruit the Edmonds into at least two Turkish organizations. Also disclosed are the names of those within the FBI who went out of their way to undercut Ms. Edmonds' concerns.

"With Sibel's prior litigation wrapped in secrecy by the government, this case will reveal for the first time the full extent of wrongdoing by the FBI, drawn entirely from its own internal investigation and unclassified sources," said Roy W. Krieger, of the Washington, D.C., law firm of Krieger & Zaid, PLLC, which specializes in national security cases and represents Edmonds. Anticipating the government's response, Krieger added that "the assertion of the state-secrets privilege in this case would be manifestly disingenuous because everything Sibel needs to prove in court in order to win is already stated in her complaint. Nothing is secret."

Russian military chief denies drill with China aimed at Taiwan

Space War - AFP: Russian military chief denies drill with China aimed at Taiwan

Excerpt - The Russian armed forces chief of staff, General Yuri Baluyevsky, denied Thursday that joint Russian-Chinese military maneuvers scheduled for later this year were a rehearsal for an invasion of Taiwan as suggested by a newspaper here.

"These exercises are certainly not directed against any third country," the government-run RIA Novosti news agency quoted Baluyevsky as saying from Beijing, where he arrived Wednesday for talks with Chinese military authorities.

Baluyevsky, who held talks with his Chinese counterpart on Thursday, said military leaders of both countries were in agreement on this.

"This position of the general staffs of the two countries has already been brought to the attention of the political leadership of Russia and China," ITAR-TASS news agency quoted him as saying.

His comments came after the respected business daily Kommersant reported that the format for war games due to be held along the shores of the Yellow Sea next autumn, the first joint military exercises by Russia and China, had been altered to resemble an attack on Taiwan.

Baluyevsky went to China "to find a way out of the scandalous story" surrounding the maneuvers, Kommersant said, adding that drills initially billed as a joint anti-terrorism exercises had been quietly altered by China.

Commenting on a law passed recently by the Chinese legislature giving Beijing a legal underpinning for attacking Taiwan should it take further steps toward national independence from the mainland, Baluyevsky said "this is China's legitimate right," ITAR-TASS reported.

The Russian foreign ministry said Monday it did not support independence for Taiwan but also reiterated its recognition of "one government, two systems" on the Taiwan issue.

The United States has described the new Chinese law on Taiwan as "unfortunate".

Hard Comment: Interesting, Russia Officially announces it does not support independence for Taiwan

The Jackals on the Network Business Shows will still tell you Communist China is a good investment, they are all blinded by Profit, Ignorant to Reality.

Comment: Not a peep of this on Cable News this morning, MSNBC and CNN that is, I flipped over at FOX for a moment, and they were covering the arrest of this person of interest in this horrible story that is going on with a missing 9 year old girl down in Florida.. sad story, but is it worthy of all day coverage?

Also, Martha Stewart makes an appeal to have her conviction overturned.

And CNN had a few moments to report about the hijacked Prisoner van this morning.

But the main story, this missing girl story.

I guess the Bush Administration has ordered the Cable News outlets not to cover the war, the election delays, the chaos over in the middle east today.

*According to Air America, Bush Choked on a Question yesterday when asked about Torture from a reporter, anyone out there see that covered on any news outlets?

Prisoner Transport Van Hijacked - Guards, Prisoners Forced Off of Van

CNN reported at about 11:40 am Thursday that someone hijacked a Prisoner Transport Van.

The Prisoners were on their way to perform Highway clean up duties. They, along with the Guards were forced off the Van and the Van drove away by the Hijacker.

It is reported that the Van had a flat tire as it drove off.

Thats it on details for now...

Hard Question: Who would want their hands on an official vehicle, most likely with State Identification tags, and maybe even flashing lights on top of it, on St Patty's Day no less?

I remind everyone of the terror strike report that was released by mistake just 2 days ago.

I really hope it was just some dumb drunk who stole this van today.

Sistani at Forefront of Iraq Constitution

Yahoo News - AP: Sistani at Forefront of Iraq Constitution

Excerpt - CAIRO, Egypt - As Shiites ascend to power in Iraq and turn toward writing a constitution, the key role expected for their enigmatic spiritual leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, is once again a subject of mystery and debate.

Top aides say al-Sistani — who remained sequestered at his home in the holy city of Najaf during the Wednesday opening session of the Iraqi parliament — has no desire to push for a constitution that turns Iraq into an Islamic republic.

But they say the 75-year-old al-Sistani will not sign off on a document that condones violations of Islam's basic tenets, including, for example, women's place in public life and the laws governing divorce.

Cannibalism Confirmed: Congo Militiamen Grilled and Boiled Alive Victims, U.N. Says

Tampa Bay Online - AP: Congo Militiamen Grilled and Boiled Alive Victims, U.N. Says

Excerpt - KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Militiamen grilled bodies on a spit and boiled two girls alive as their mother watched, U.N. peacekeepers charged Wednesday, adding cannibalism to a list of atrocities allegedly carried out by one of the tribal groups fighting in northeast Congo.

The commander of U.N. forces in Congo, Gen. Patrick Cammaert, presented a report on abuses allegedly committed by the Patriotic Resistance Front of Ituri.

"Those responsible for atrocities will be brought to justice," Cammaert said.

Peacekeepers have also begun working to cut off weapons supplies to the group, which apparently entered the country from neighboring Uganda, he said.

Members of the group were suspected of killing nine U.N. peacekeepers in a Feb. 25 ambush. On March 1, gunmen fired on Pakistani peacekeepers and the peacekeepers fought back, killing up to 60 fighters, U.N. officials said at the time.

Congo became a battleground for six nations during a 1998-2002 war that killed some 50,000 people directly and another 3 million through strife-induced hunger and disease. But sporadic fighting continues between militiamen, rebels and government troops in the lawless northeast.

The fighting there is killing thousands every month and has made it the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, U.N. humanitarian chief Jan Egeland said in Geneva on Wednesday.

The allegations of cannibalism in the U.N. report were from a summary of testimony from witnesses gathered over a year from hundreds of people who had been kidnapped by militias in the region. The report said that some victims were killed by torture and decapitation. Those not killed were held in labor camps and forced to work as fishermen, porters, domestic workers and sex slaves.

"Several witnesses reported cases of mutilation followed by death or decapitation," the report said.

The U.N. report included an account from Zainabo Alfani in which she said she was forced to watch rebels kill and eat two of her children in June 2003.

The report said, "In one corner, there was already cooked flesh from bodies and two bodies being grilled on a barbecue and, at the same time, they prepared her two little girls, putting them alive in two big pots filled with boiling water and oil."

Lou Dobbs Takes the Night Off - But You Wouldn't Know it

Tonight, Wednesday, I found myself watching the 'Lou Dobbs' CNN Broadcast replay at 11pm est.

Lou took the night off, for reasons unknown, and a fellow Manikin has replaced him. Tonight's Manikin is a female, Brunette, Attractive, and did a fine job delivering the same tone that is usually delivered by Lou Dobbs.

Homeland Security Inefficiency, Illegal Aliens owning homes backed by Federal Loans, along with all the facial expressions of disgust properly timed with each issue discussed.

Conclusion: Lou Dobbs is a Phony, he is nothing but a Manikin. Delivering a message written by someone else. Doing what many other TV Manikins posing as Journalists do, deliver someone else's thoughts from the teleprompter.

I've said this before, but never in print, so here it is, in print.

NY Times: Scientists Expect More Quakes and Tsunamis in Sumatra Region

Scientists Expect More Quakes and Tsunamis in Sumatra Region

Excerpt - The violent thrust of the seabed near Sumatra that touched off catastrophic tsunamis in December created significant new risks of earthquakes and tsunamis there, seismologists are reporting in the journal Nature.

The researchers say that the place at greatest risk from a new earthquake is the devastated city of Banda Aceh and that the tsunami risk lies along Sumatra's heavily populated southern coasts. But they added that any fresh tremors or waves would be unlikely to have anywhere near the destructive power of the December earthquake, the world's second most powerful seismic shock in 100 years.

Still, the researchers, from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, said that the new threat added urgency to efforts to extend the world's only existing tsunami-warning network, in the Pacific, to include the Indian Ocean.

They said they could not predict when the next shocks might occur, but noted that in similar geological settings, in Turkey and Japan, big quakes have set off tremors in adjacent faults in a few months to a few years.
