4 Canadian Cops Killed during Marijuana Raid

BBC Report: Police killed in Canada drug raid

Four Canadian police officers have been killed during a drug raid in rural Alberta, in the west of the country

Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been searching for cannabis on a small farm near the city of Edmonton in a routine investigation.

Officials say the owner of the farm also died in the incident, near the village of Rochfort Bridge.

Regional RCMP commander Bill Sweeney said it has been 120 years since Canada has seen an incident like this.

"The loss of four police officers is unprecedented in recent history in Canada, and I'm told you have to go back to about 1885 in the RCMP history, during the north-west rebellion, to have a loss of this magnitude," he said.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. These four officers were killed while trying to execute a warrant for a truck dealership which was owed money by the murderer. Originally it was only two cops who went, but then once they were there it turned out that the place was in fact a chop shop - three brand new trucks were laying about in pieces - so more cops were brought in. They also happened to find 20 pot plants. Hardly a grow op. Linking these tragic killings to marijuana is too simplistic and easy. The murderer was a crazed nut with a predilection for weapons and young teenage boys. This is tragic - but it was not a marijuana raid as has been widely reported.
