Taiwan Not Happy with EU for Plans Lifting Weapon Sale Ban from China & Japan and the United States Military Support of Taiwan Against Communist China

Space War AFP Reports: Taiwan raps EU over plans to lift China arms ban

Excerpt: Taiwan's president warned Tuesday that EU plans to lift an arms embargo on China threaten the military balance in East Asia -- and accused some in Europe of double standards in currying favour with Beijing.

President Chen Shui-bian, in a video conference with European Unionlawmakers, notably singled out France, which has spearheaded the bloc's drive to end the 15-year-old ban on weapons sales to Beijing.

He added that the planned lifting in the next few months of the arms ban, slapped on Beijing after the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, could also let Beijing think it did not need to proceed with democratic reforms.

Hard Observation: Let us check back to this Washington Post Story from a few weeks ago which is related indirectly...

Washington Post: Japan to Join U.S. Policy on Taiwan

Excerpt: TOKYO, Feb. 17 -- The United States and Japan will declare Saturday for the first time in a joint agreement that Taiwan is a mutual security concern, according to a draft of the document. Analysts called the move a demonstration of Japan's willingness to confront the rapidly growing might of China.

The United States has long focused attention on the Chinese government's threat to use military force against Taiwan if the island, which China views as a renegade province, moves toward independence. Until now, Japan has been content to let the United States bear the brunt of Beijing's displeasure.

But in the most significant alteration since 1996 to the U.S.-Japan Security Alliance, which remains the cornerstone of U.S. interests in East Asia, Japan will join the Bush administration in identifying security in the Taiwan Strait as a "common strategic objective." Set for release after a meeting of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and their Japanese counterparts in Washington on Saturday, the revisions will also call for Japan to take a greater role in conjunction with U.S. forces both in Asia and beyond, according to a draft copy obtained by The Washington Post.

And let's not forget the January 18th Report on statements made by Donald Rumsfled

Rumsfeld: China Is Building Strategic Offensive Military Positions
"String of pearls" military plan to protect China's oil: US report

Excerpt: China is developing military bases and diplomatic ties from the Middle East to the South China Sea in order to protect its oil shipments and strategic interests, according to an internal report prepared for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, The Washington Times said Tuesday.

"China is building strategic relationships along the sea lanes from the Middle East to the South China Sea in ways that suggest defensive and offensive positioning to protect China's energy interests, but also to serve broad security objectives," said the report, sponsored by the director of Net Assessment, who heads Mr. Rumsfeld's office on future-oriented strategies.

Beijing has resolved virtually all its land border disputes with its neighbours: it has signed a non-aggression pact with the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean); it is working to help resolve the North Korean nuclear issue; it is signing a treaty of friendship and cooperation with Asean which includes free trade agreements and economic aid; and it is conducting joint military exercises with Russia, Kyrgyzstan, India and Pakistan.

as long as we are doing flashbacks and talking about bush's early days as president and china,
I will post a couple snippets from a report in a timeline of events surrounding 9-11 found @ cooperativeresearch.net

note that the report is said to advocate "regime change" in China, North Korea, Libya, Syria, Iran and other countries.(why I decided to post)

The neoconservative think-tank Project for the New American Century writes a “blueprint” for the “creation of a ‘global Pax Americana’ ” (see also June 3, 1997). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategies, Forces and Resources for a New Century, was written for the Bush team even before the 2000 Presidential election. It was commissioned by future Vice President Cheney, future Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, future Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, Florida Governor and President Bush's brother Jeb Bush, and future Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff Lewis Libby.

The report calls for the control of space through a new “US Space Forces,” the political control of the internet, the subversion of any growth in political power of even close allies, and advocates “regime change” in China, North Korea, Libya, Syria, Iran and other countries. It also mentions that “advanced forms of biological warfare that can ‘target’ specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool.” A British Member of Parliament says of the report, “This is a blueprint for US world domination—a new world order of their making. These are the thought processes of fantasist Americans who want to control the world”
